Leonard Masonry Receives International Awards
Masonry contractor receives international recognition for masonry projects
ST. LOUIS, June 8, 2005 - Leonard Masonry Inc. has received two International Excellence in Masonry Awards. The St. Louis-based masonry contractor was honored for its work on the Emerson Grand Basin and Our Lady of Lourdes church.
"We pride ourselves on our craftsmanship and it is rewarding to see the beauty and benefit of our stone and masonry workmanship recognized on an international level," said Jeff Leonard, president. "We have a strong commitment to excellence at Leonard Masonry, and it is exciting to see some of the country's most beautiful designs brought to life."
Sponsored by the Mason Contractors Association of America, the awards were announced in Chicago on April 19, 2005. Leonard Masonry received first and second place honors.
Leonard Masonry was the winner in the rehab/restoration category for its craftsmanship on Emerson Grand Basin. An historic attraction in St. Louis' Forest Park, the basin was transformed from crumbling limestone walls and stagnant water into a breathtaking recreation of the unique and memorable attraction at the 1904 World's Fair. The final design included pedestrian promenades and balcony overlooks with dramatic views, bridges, boat landings, landscaping and irrigation utilizing Brazilian Granite and more than 9,000 pieces of cast stone.
Leonard Masonry received second place honors for the beautifully crafted Our Lady of Lourdes church located in Washington, Mo. The 35,968-square-foot church showcases a mixture of traditional German gothic architecture and modern amenities. The church was designed using a combination of brick, cast stone and split-faced block. The cast stone is used throughout the design to accent windows and columns. Corbelled brick is paired with cast stone to border exquisite pointed arch windows. Horizontal bands of cast stone around the building add interest among the sea of brick. This beautiful church in rural Missouri is an excellent example of Leonard Masonry's craftsmanship and provides a warm and inviting place to worship.
